I ordered this book for a friend and myself who play flute and piano, and it turned out to be a fine collection of seven sonatas; the arrangements are similar to the recordings made by Jean-Pierre Rampal for flute and harpsichord.

  • January 09, 2009 Excellent for teaching rhythm, articulation.

For the price, this is an excellent publication. It keeps the melodic line in the correct register for Baroque performance, unlike some other publications. I use this book for most 7th and 8th grade students and high school students who need Baroque background and are weak in their ability to...

count. We work on these sonatas all year. These sontatas are excellent for teaching fundamental rhythms and articulations, as well as interpretation. I use the slow movements as tone and vibrato studies. This publication is easy to read and the piano part is playable by most accompanists. The one negative about this edition is that L. Moyse did not write in the appoggiaturas. As a teacher, one must teach the correct technique for trills.

For my purposes of keeping my abilites and everyday practice, these are a perfect fit. They are very melodic and interesting works.
