By pairing the scales with easy repertoire in mostly stationary positions, the student not only gains valuable experience in executing ascending and descending scales but they are able to perform pieces and demonstrate an ability to read music in all the major and minor keys. Pieces include folk tune favorites and classical repertoire by Strauss, Schubert, Brahms, Schumann, Beethoven, Liszt, and more.

This is a wonderful find. I recently changed from a teacher who did not instruct using scales as a beginning tool. This book introduces major scales and gives simple exercises for understanding. I am using this book along with Czerny-Schaum scale exercises and the two together improve flexiblity in...

playing. I have also ordered level E and F Schaum books to expand my exercise program. I recommend it for all 2nd and 3rd year piano students. Instructing without the scales is a dead end road to no where. It produces instinctual playing or so says my teacher.

this collection is invaluable to beginning students. it teaches scales which is most important while giving students a piece to play. it keeps their interest while exposing them to classical melodies and composers.

I had this book as a child and enjoyed it. Each scale presented has a short accompanying song in the corresponding key. For my lesser motivated piano pupils, I'm hoping that this book will make the practice of scales more relevant and maybe even fun! It is definitely very...

easy and a wonderful way to introduce the beginner to the importance of scales.
