The study of technic is an integral part of any complete education in the performance of a musical instrument. Piano students who consistently practice scales, arpeggios, chords, and finger exercises will gain greater finger strength and flexibility as well as increased fluency and accuracy in performance. Familiarity with these technical elements also enhances a secure understanding of basic music theory. Now, Scale Skills from the Neil A. Kjos Piano Library provides an organized system for the study of scales, arpeggios, chords, and finger exercises. Eleven appropriately graded levels ensure steady progress as pianists advance in their study of technic. Each level reviews and incorporates the exercises and activities from previous levels, helping students develop a solid technical foundation. Level 1.

This is an excellent book for young as well as older beginners to learn scales, I-V chords with progressions, and simplified arpeggios. I use this with all my Level One students.

This book is great for Level 1 and up students for learning scales. Loved them as a student and love them as a teacher. Level 1 is my favorite choice of scale skills in general.

This book is great for Level 2 and up students for learning one and two octave scales, learning speed with scales, and those common I. IV, V7 chords in every position. Loved them as a student and love them as a teacher.

I use the Scale Skills series simply because it is organized and easy; the series progresses well. I often have to write extra exercises for students because no technic or scale book can cover everything but this is a good starting point.
