With innovative music-therapeutic concepts such as the mouth-harp-play, Justinus Kerner tried to help mentally ill people. In addition to his therapeutic activities, he also wrote numerous poems, which where the basis for compositions by Schubert, Schumann, Strauss and others. A cross-section of these settings is presented here in this new release by Andreas Reibenspies, Jana Buchner, Thomas Crome and Eckart Sellheim. A notable feature in this recording is the use of an 1849 fortepiano which was built in Bosendorfer's workshop in Vienna. The artists chose this instrument for the recording for its rich and colorful sound and remarkable transparency.
