By Andy Williams. By Antonio Carlos Jobim. Arranged by Mboya Nicholson. Jazz,Latin. Score and parts. 16 pages. Mboya #3008989. Published by Mboya (A0.985751)."Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars" by Antonio Carlos Jobim, started its existence as "Corcovado", the same name as the iconic mountain that "stands guard" over Rio de Janeiro. When lyricist Gene Lees wrote English words to the song, those words did not allude to the mountain; instead they reflected the serene nature of the composition itself. This instrumental arrangement for string quartet utilizes the bossa nova rhythm with pizzicato, and alternates between string members taking portions of the melody, for variety. The intent in this arrangement is lush thick harmony, but also a percussive, buoyant support, characteristic of Brazilian music. .
