Psalm is not based on any particular psalm, but instead attempts to create a general spiritual setting. Modern and ancient sounds and textures are contrasted and combined, melodies are often chant-like and the harmonies range from very consonant octaves and fifths to very dissonant chords. Shifting meters will provide a challenge for players and conductor alike. This is serious and worthwhile literature for winds and percussion.
