By Richard Casey. By Sir Peter Maxwell Davies. Classical. Listening CD (2 discs). Naxos #PFCD017/18. Published by Naxos (NX.PFCD017-18).

This new anthology explores composer Peter Maxwell Davies in a new light. While known for his large-scale compositions, this release shows Davies as a piano miniaturist. Several works on this release are inspired by his home in Orkney. The simple but satisfying pieces “Three Sanday Places,” “Snow Cloud, over Lochan,” and “Farewell to Stromness,” are a few which evoke visions of the place. British pianist Richard Casey performs these pieces. An award winning and world-touring musician, Casey frequently performs with the New Music Players, and as a guest with the London Sinfonietta and the Composers' Ensemble, and is a founding member of the contemporary music ensemble Psappha.
