Judy Garland never sang it like this! This up, swinging arrangement is mostly in 5/4 time, with sections in 3/4 and 4/4 as well. The verses are in close harmony and rather low for Soprano and Alto. Tenor and Baritone/Bass should sing with a breathier, lighter tone to blend, or in a larger group some tenors could even double the upper parts (however, the women in the lower registers give the verses a dreamy, wistful quality perfect for the song). There is an alto solo opportunity in the bridge and an a cappella contrapuntal section in a Swingles-ish mood after the instrumental solos. This is a refreshing and memorable take on an American classic that gives it a whole new dimension. SAATB a cappella and accompanied (rhythm section, flute and flugelhorn).
