This crowd-pleasing tune, made immensely popular by George Benson, starts with a short rubato a cappella introduction followed immediately by a funky Bensonesque rhythm section vamp. Male voices enter with a unison melody which gradually builds with the stepwise addition of female voices and bluesy, multi-layered melodic lines. A vocal improvisation section is followed by excitingly syncopated, pyramiding lines which resolve to a recapitulation of the opening a cappella section. An electrifying opener or closer. SATB with rhythm section.
