This is a dazzling piece of choral music, for the choir looking for something with "wow factor". Arranged by the composer from the third song in his "Idylls" cycle, the music assimilates the concept of freedom in a way that is dazzling in its effect: conventionally modal choir harmonies yet with total fluidity of modulation; having a regular metre and yet always trying to break free from it; a piano accompaniment that is a work of art in its own right (and needs to be played as such), a rippling tapestry of sound whose rhythms cut across those of the choir yet whose harmonies complement the voices perfectly. Together the piano and choir demonstrate more clearly than could words alone, that freedom and diversity working together can achieve great things. This is a celebration of liberty and its place in the civilisations of the United Kingdom, the United States of America and all other countries where freedom of expression is valued and inspires people to majestic works. The choir parts are of intermediate difficulty. The piano part requires a fairly proficient pianist. Well worth the effort and thoroughly recommended.
