Together, Simon and Garfunkel were tasked with the soundtrack to the classic film The Graduate and they didn't disappoint. While the subject matter of the film is a little racy, the title song is not. It's lyrics ask to be brought back to a simpler time (than the mid-60s mind you), and the music is a mix of jazz and early rock. Mrs. Robinson is one of the pair's first big hits.
This arrangement is for an advanced/professional group. All four parts are important and complex. The cello part drives the rhythm. The first violin carries the melody, first with the second violin, and then with viola for the chorus. The double stops in the viola and second violin are relatively simple, most using open strings. This is a great up-tempo song for background music at a wedding or other event. Duration is about 3-3 1/2 minutes with repeats.
