For Bassoon Quartet. By Daniel Baldwin. COMPOSER'S NOTES: Maverick Fanfare was written at the suggestion of my dear friend, Scott Pool. It was written for his college group to perform at various recitals at the University of Texas at Arlington, where he is now on the faculty, as well as at the 2010 IDRS convention at the University of Oklahoma. I happily volunteered my services for this endeavor and set out to write a bassoon quartet that would serve as a nice contrast to my first bassoon quartet, Ballade. What came out was a wonderfully lyrical showcase of bassoons in perpetual motion. This piece is a colorful and energetic addition to the bassoon quartet repertoire. I'm grateful to Scott for his enthusiastic commitment to new music and his selfless commitment to championing my music. Full of rhythmic interest and dramatic harmonic interplay, this piece truly is a maverick fanfare! It was premiered on November 14, 2009 at the University of Texas at Arlington.
