  • February 21, 2008 Excellent Option for the Older Beginner!

After examing several popular available courses for the older beginner I chose Mastering Music IA for my first 13 year old student. This course fits the bill: interesting, challenging music, not chordal heavy but teaches beginning contrapuntal skills and is appropriately paced for a teen. I also chose this book...

because I believe my student will come back to review the pieces over and over again as they are enjoyable to play. The only detail I could do without is in the intro she teaches "Every Good Boy..." etc formulas that I never use and think are counterproductive. We just skipped over these.
