Composed for the US Marine Band's first extended tour under its director John Philip Sousa in 1891 it is based on the famous Civil War era song of the same name and also introduces "Dixie." Written in "patrol" style it starts softly in the distance, builds to an exciting climax and slowly fades into the distance. We are proud to be able to offer the first published edition of this important American work.
