Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808658).Published in 1826, Franz Schubert’s "Marches militaires" consists of three four-hand piano pieces. Over the years, the first of these has been most popular, was performed much more often and, in the minds of many, usurped the title of the three-piece whole as "Marche militaire." Some may still remember watching the opening of the 1950s Autolite-sponsored CBS TV series "Suspense" as a parade of spark plugs and other products marched across their TV screens to the beat of a full-orchestra version of "March No. 1 in D Major."
Although written for piano, the piece falls naturally to wind instrument ensembles, including brass quintet. This version shows off the various instruments of the group at their best while remaining true to the original Schubert score. Audiences love it, and musicians enjoy playing it.
