A collection of rich harmonic and contrapuntal vocal/ guitar arrangements by the renowned guitarist and composer, Laurindo Almeida. Born in Sao Paulo Brazil in 1917 and immigrating to the U.S. in 1947, it was Almeida who brought the bossa nova style to the United States long before it was so named. With Brazilian Reflections, the always elegant and tasteful Almeida brings his skills as a supreme guitarist and arranger to bear in these stunning arrangements of traditional and modern songs from Brazil. Written in standard notation with Portuguese lyrics. The companion CD included with this book features Almeida accompanying his wife, soprano Deltra (Didi) Eamon Almeida, in spirited and soulful renditions which reflect their love of this music and their life-long personal/ professional collaboration.

These arrangements are great, and a nice change from the standard Spanish guitar/voice music that most voice students perform. They're a little simpler than what's on the recordings (Almeida plays some more interesting and detailed fills), but a good guitar player can fit those in from listening...

to the recording if they want. By the way, a MUCH better recording is available with half of the songs from this book on it - it's called "Duets With Spanish Guitar" with Almeida playing guitar and Salli Terri singing. If you buy this sheet music to work on the songs, you should buy that cd for vocal stylings - the included cd is not as good for that. Again, these are wonderful songs and should be performed more often than they are. It's also worth it to find a Brazilian to help you with the Portuguese diction because on both recordings the dictions is innacurate, but the sheet music is highly reccomended.

What a waste of talent, because I know Almeida is a great player, and what a waste of money if you decide to buy this book. I have long been a fan of Brazilian music so this book sounded like a great idea. I bought this book with the intention...

of playing it as a flute and guitar duet. However after I gave it a listen and found that all the songs were dull, boring, and depressing I decided not to show it to my flutist so that she wouldn't laugh at me. Not a single song is worth playing in it.

If you haven't explored his arrangements as a singer or guitar player, this book is a must have. The songs a gorgeous! Some of the guitar accompmaniment is difficult, but half of it is intermediate. Great for intermediate/advanced vocalists.
