After a brief introduction, the flute states the familiar melody while accompanied by rolling 6/8 eighth and 16th notes in the piano. As the piano takes over the melody to begin the second verse, the flute decorates the melody with an obbligato consisting mostly of rising and falling 16th note patterns. When the chorus of the hymn returns, the flute performs the melody, this time enhanced with occasional soaring 16th note scale and arpeggio patterns. The work then quietly and gently draws to a lovely pianissimo conclusion. Suitable for church services and other performances. Arranged at an advanced intermediate (or early advanced) level, In the Garden is suitable for high school level performers and above.
