In a Gentle Rain

In a Gentle Rain (Wind Instrument Solo). By Robert W. Smith. Concert Band. Concert Band. Belwin Symphonic Band. Grade 4. Conductor Score & Parts. 136 pages. Published by Belwin Music (AP.BDM00018).

ISBN 0757932665.

This second movement of The Willson Suite has been restructured to accommodate virtually any wind instrument as the soloist. Serene by nature, the charismatic melody is accompanied by unique effects reminiscent of a gentle rain. The solo may be divided to permit multiple soloists to be featured. This creative approach is the perfect opportunity to feature outstanding soloists at your spring concert. An incredibly musical work. Your audience will be in awe.

  • November 09, 2008 I Absolutely Love This Song

This is soothing, pretty, and awesome. I love everything about it. It has many solos, and you have to snap to make rain and the purcussion makes thunder. This is so genius. I love all the solos especially the piano and flute solos. They sound so pretty and peaceful. I...

like how it starts out as rain and soft solos come in. Then it gets a little louder but it is still soothing. Then it gets softer and the rain continues, fades, and stops. I was in 8th grade when I played this in our 8th grade band. I'm a flute. The flutes sound so pretty. We played this in our spring concert. And yes the audience was amazed especially with the rain drops. At the end when the rain was supposed to fade, we did a wave of rain across the stage and then little by little we stopped snapping so it would sound like the rain is stopping and the last drop was a spoon tap on a cooking pot. It was so awesome and easy. You just have to play it beautifully.

  • January 03, 2002 In A Gentle Rain- The Rain Falls

This song is very gentle. Robert W. Smith has expressed the serenity of rain fall, and the power of thunder. This song is very emotional rather than aggressive (Like the Iliad). This song takes you on a journey in to the storm, out of the storm, and back into it...

again. This has many solos as well. I really do like this song. This actually is one of his best works.
