  • August 02, 2016 Great Jazz Duets

I bought this flute edition to play on the guitar since the ranges are similar (it's more difficult reading for guitar, but these arrangements are useful). I found that many of the songs were in unusual keys, which is okay but it might throw some people for a loop...

. The arrangements are interesting and the chords on top are accurate and nice to have for accompaniment on guitar or piano.

It's nice to finally see some jazz instrumental duet options. The arrangements are especially good for those who enjoy playing jazz, but don't play by ear. The melody line moves from part 1 to part 2, giving instrumentalists a balance of playing, and it feels like the "real...

thing" for those not used to or able to "ad lib" jazz. The arrangements are good for teaching rhythms and the jazz style of playing, and work especially well for older musicians since the melodies are familiar. See also: "15 Top Jazz Duets"

  • June 04, 2008 Challenging and fun

Great Jazz Duets provides a challenge to playing jazz, not because of the music technique, but because the music is for two people. Keeping proper time and playing jazz is fun, yet challenging.
