    Somewhere Out In Flyover Country
    Difficulty Level:
  • April 07, 2012 Helpful Aid For A Rock Guy

I'm about as funky as The Allman Brothers, so I needed help dealing with some of the material I was handed on my new gig. I've always played in rock bands & this is the first time that I've had to cover various genres like country, funk, etc...

. If you read standard music notation (not tab), this book is great. The 3 songs it got me through made it worth the price. Curiously, every tune in the book is by the original artist with the single exception of Higher Ground by Stevie Wonder. (Coincidentally, this was one of the tunes I had to learn.) The bass line is for The Red Hot Chili Peppers cover. Despite my initial disappointment, I was able to use Flea's line to construct a passable enough version. Some of the material in this book is nearly impossible to play for the average cat, but overall I found it very useful.
