The best known funeral march is the third movement of the Piano Sonata No. 2 in B flat minor, Op. 35 by Frédéric François Chopin. A decade before writing this movement, Chopin had already composed another funeral march in C minor, which was published posthumously as Marche funèbre Op.72 No. 2. Commonly used in movies and cartoons with the indication of death, often creating a negative stereotype as to the real purpose of the music, which is to honor the deceased.
