Famous Clarinet Favorites, while it is a useful book and the selections are generally good, several of the tunes are too short or too difficult for an early intermediate player. As well, there are at least a couple of poor arrangements. A favorite selection, and perhaps the most useful piece...

, from this book among students is MacDowell's To a Wild Rose. This piece is practical for focusing on changing between the low and middle registers of the clarinet, something many young students do not like to work on, as well as tone quality. However, at least four of the pieces are too difficult for a student of that level. The Bach and Thomas Gavottes are rather difficult, as they involve constant register changes at a fast tempo. The Scherezade and theme from slow movement from Mozart's Clarinet Concerto is too difficult, and with the ornaments removed, is a poor arrangement.
