SKU: A0.953712

Composed by Anthony A. Showalter, Henri F. Hemy, Phoebe Palmer Knapp, and and William Croft. Arranged by G. R. Adkison. Christian,Sacred. Score. 6 pages. Gary Ray Adkison #1401. Published by Gary Ray Adkison (A0.953712).

"Faith in God Medley" is an 86 measure, 4-5 octave handbell choir medley of the Christian hymns: "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms", "Faith of Our Fathers", "Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine", and "O God, Our Help in Ages Past". The unifying theme, as the title suggests, is faith in God. All of it is fairly upbeat, except for the first verse of "O God, Our Help in Ages Past". That verse is slow and plain, as a setup for contrast with the verse to follow. That verse makes heavy use of an eighth-note descant line that causes it to seem significantly faster than it otherwise would. That last verse is already twice as fast as the previous verse, so there is quite a contrast between the two verses, not only in apparent tempo, but also in volume. In spite of this descant, I believe that this is probably a level 2 arrangement in difficulty. The "dotted-eighth/sixteenth patterns have been changed to "even eighths", in order to make it easier for handbell choirs of modest ability to play, and no special techniques are used (other than a shake on the end), to make it easier than it would otherwise be. The audio clip uses a piano voice (patch) but otherwise suffices to demonstrate how the arrangement is generally intended to sound, as that audio file is a direct output of the arranging/composing program used.
