I love Elton John and this book has so many of his greatest hits. All of the music is fairly accurate, however their are hardly any chords in the left hand, and part of what I love about his piano playing is how he uses the chords in the left...

hand to give the song a strong base and soul. The sheet music is still very well composed and is easy to improvise off of.

  • December 20, 2000 Fairly good for its age

I agree with the first post completely. The notations are not entirely accurate, but some are difficult if you're starting out or if you aren't one to just get the jist and play by ear. As for quality, granted I have banged mine around for 10 years, but...

it split down the binding in many places where other older music books I have haven't yet done that with even worse wear and tear. Piano notation with guitar chords - not a bad book for his earlier stuff.

  • August 26, 2000 Older title, old book, OK for basics

This is an older title, and the text and paper quality was rather sub-standard. Most of Elton's classics are included, thus the title "Anthology." It's a thick book at 240 pages. As a guitar player, I found the accuracy B- and since Elton is a piano player...

, the guitar portions are transcribed as good as can be expected as the guitar is a supporting instrument in his music. Elton is a sophisticated musician and his work is not for the beginner; a lot of the chords and phrasing are hard to play. An updated and (abridged) version of this anthology would be welcome (with tablature). However if you are looking for Elton John music, this one purchase will satisfy you and keep you busy learning and playing, no doubt. For guitar players, I recommend Elton's titles #699713 and #702088 also available at this store as a better investment than this book.
