Composed by Ben Dockery. Children,Contemporary,Pop,Rock,Standards. Score. 3 pages. Ben Dockery #3125057. Published by Ben Dockery (A0.692999).

This short piano piece is the second in a series of impromptus inspired by the sounds of childhood, namely music from early Nineties eight-bit gaming systems like Nintendo.
Rather than being in a major or minor key, this piece is predominately in the lydian mode.  With other impromptus, I held specific video games in mind, but with this piece I tried to remember the many games where flying ships, vehicles, or characters occur.  Something about the brightness of the lydian mode has always made me think of flying.
The left-hand ostinato pattern can be mastered if care is given to suggested fingerings, i.e. repeated notes are not played only with the thumb.  The middle section offers pianists a chance to explore the 5/4 time signature and to build tension through dynamics, and rhythmic and textural density.  .
