Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Joe Armstrong and Liz Leehey. Baroque,Sacred. 3 pages. Elizabeth Leehey #2009707. Published by Elizabeth Leehey (A0.889346).

Soprano aria, Die Seele ruht in Jesu Handen (The Soul rests in Jesus' Hands) from Cantata 127, transcribed for flute and clarinet duet, shows Bach at his most ingenious emotionally as it combines--sometimes in the same phrase--both the dark emotion of inevitable death with the blessed assurance of an afterlife full of joy and peace. The clarinet sounds the death knell from time to time, requiring a very sensitively articulated and resonant sequence of eighth-notes, and then it joins the reaching and arching solo lines stated in the flute from the very beginning. Great for endurance and for developing sensitivity to expressive articulation throughout. Both players read from the score.
