There is an optional bass saxophone part added to make a sextet, but it is not required. The added bass saxophone doubles the baritone sax, but sometimes adds its own unique layer. The piece features a whirling motive that is passed around the saxophones. The title refers to a "Dust Devil," or a type of tornado of dirt found in the southwestern United States, but listeners could also imagine the kind of devil that is red, has a tail, horns, and a pitchfork! The piece is roughly 2:30 minutes.
