  • April 27, 2008 Gorgeous Piece, Wonderful Edition!

The technical and musical masteries of Prokofiev are very apparent in this dazzling concerto! I never really liked/listened to this composer until I heard this violin concerto. The first movement is slightly easier than the rest; the second is for maestros! The third movement brings back some of the...

themes from the first movement, the romantic, yet dark melody. That being said, this edition, I have found, is the best out there. Oistrakh's fingerings are as always the most comfortable and most reliable. With this concerto, it is very important (moreso than other violin concertos) to know what's going on in the orchestra. This concerto is not for beginners, but if you're looking for a challenge, go right ahead!

  • March 31, 2007 Masterwork

Fantastic work from the Russian master Prokofiev, and fantastic edition from the IMC. Fingerings and bowings from Oistrakh are, as allways, probably the most confortable and intelligent. A 5 star purchase.

  • November 23, 2006 Amazing work

I have just started learning the first movement of this work and am very familiar with the other movements.Like all other Prokofiev works, this work continues to grow on you the more you become acquainted with it. As the first reviewer mentioned, not for the faint-hearted as it...

is fiendishly difficult (the first movement probably being slightly easier than the others) but certainly worth learning if you have or can acquire the skills!! Prokofiev continues to impress me more and more and is definitely my favourite composer, especially for violin. Pure genuis!
