    Los Angeles
    Difficulty Level:
  • December 24, 2013 Not so complete

If there's any doubt about a piece being written by Reinken, they've omitted it from this 'complete' edition altogether. That only leaves four works (and excludes three others). They dutifully list in the preface the pieces they excluded – e.g. the Fugue in Gm. I want to play...

this piece regardless of its questionable authorship. So where will I find it, in this or any of their volumes? I won't. In Schott's plan, if there’s any question about the authorship, it shouldn't be played at all! Better would be to include everything that MIGHT be by Reinken and label it as doubtful authorship. That’s what Breitkopf & Hartel does in their edition, and I’ll be getting their editions from now on. I don’t want to be fooled by Schott’s “Complete (ha ha, not really)” editions again.

Reincken is, to say the least, a bit obscure. To find an edition of his works this complete and this well-edited is quite a treat. Love the way these books look too!
