For his anthology Caecilia - 253 Preludes for Organ or Harmonium , editor August Reinhard (1831-1912) noticeably drew on the achievements of the preceding generation. Pride of place was given to August Friedrich Hesse and Johann Christian Heinrich Rinck. Most of the preludes - ranging from very easy to medium-level difficulty - can be used in a variety of ways in the religious service, since they are not based on one specific chorale melody.
