Composed by Frank McKinney. Halloween,Pop. 54 pages. Published by Trackrock Music (S0.172045).

Booger Hollowis an actual community, just a few miles south of Blairsville,Georgia and near the home of the composer. The place is rumored to behaunted, and so this piece takes the listener on an adventure througha mysterious place of shifting shadows, foreboding mountains andcreepy fog.

In performance maintainstrict time throughout, being very careful with note values, rhythms, articulations and dynamic markings. It may be necessary for theclarinets to play a dynamic level above what is written, dependingupon the balance of instrumentation in the band. Although thechromatics may challenge younger players, it will give them anopportunity to learn alternate fingerings. At measure 13-14 theflutes should roll the head joint inwards to create the glissandoeffect from the Bb minor chord to the A minor chord.

The piece is writtenloosely in rondo form with an ostinato pattern that may take somework. Notice a development section at letter D, augmentation of themain theme at letter E, and the retrograde starting in measure 77that leads to the finish. I hope you enjoy Haunted Hollow in yournext Halloween concert or just anytime for fun.
