If you're looking for a version that fits the Civil War series, this is it... but if you're looking for (in my mind) the BEST arrangement for violin & piano, you can't beat the Ashokan Duo version (see iTunes)... however, I haven't found that fabulous piano arrangement...

    in sheet music yet.

  • May 24, 2014 Yes, but...

This is the Ashokan Farewell, and does have a piano accompaniment... HOWEVER, it is NOT the same piano accompaniment that is featured in the "Ashokan Farewell - Single" which has a different sweeter sound to it... and I did NOT see any verbiage differentiating the two.

  • August 25, 2013 Awesome Piece

I started playing a few months ago and heard this while at a camp and fell in love with the piece. I had to learn it and I did. It is one of the most beautiful pieces one could play. Getting the vibrato and slurs right was a little challenge...

but after that one will never want to forget this piece. I looked more into Jay Ungar and had to buy The Lover's Waltz as well. Just amazing pieces of music. If you're a fan of passionate music, this is the piece for you.

This fiddle piece along with piano accompaniment was everything I wanted and expected - beautiful piece that sounded just like it came from the civil war.

  • August 04, 2010 Emotionally Moving

This song is my all-time favorite song for violin. I have been playing violin for 10 years and of all pieces, this one still moves me to tears. just by itself, the song is moving, but with the piano, there is nothing like it. The song itself is not...

too hard, except for the double stops, but to have it sound good, you do have to be somewhat experienced. the rhythms are somewhat challenging too. at the end of the piece it shifts to third position, but if you don't know where that is, just wing it and you will eventually get it. Jay Ungar wrote this piece to be free to your own alterations, which means you can add your own musical touch. you can add a grace note here, leave one out there, and it will make it more personal to you and sound more unique. just try not to change rhythms around. overall, one of the best pieces of music ever.
