This is a beautiful arrangement! I enthusiastically recommend it. Lovely harmonies & excellent interpretation of this beloved folk hymn. The arrangement provides excellent musical drama as it progresses through the verses, yet resolves with gracefulness into a gentle ending well suited for church settings. The alto solo that can be readily...

managed by the section should you have no soloists. There are numerous key changes involving 5 to 7 flats, but the accompaniment is quite achievable despite this as it is not very complex. Our choir was a bit taxed by how high the soprano and tenor parts went, so we ultimately transposed it down two steps. This worked very well and did not diminish the musical qualities, nor drop the bases and altos out of their comfort zones. John Rutter can generally be relied upon to provide high quality compositions of great beauty and sensitivity.

Our choir (Lutheran) really enjoyed doing this. You do need some experienced voices in the soprano and tenor sections plus a keyboard player who can handle the key changes which include playing in 6 and 7 flats.
