    Difficulty Level:
  • November 05, 2008 Best series so far!

I teach piano & have used Alfred's Basic, and Bastien Piano Basics mostly. My Alfred's students would hit a wall at Level 2, trying to play chords when they hadn't been taught that theory yet. The Bastien Piano Basics begins with hand positions and it's hard for...

the students to graduate out of that thinking. Later volumes become boring with the same exercises in different keys. So I tried this Premier Piano Course and the students learn notes amazingly well with no hand positions. Students and parents alike love this series.

    Difficulty Level:
  • September 29, 2008 Applause for great improvements

I have been teaching piano for years and have always used Alfred's basic piano course. Beginner students always have trouble getting out of the basic five finger position because they read the music by fnger numbers. This new course makes them move fingers all over piano from the beginning...

. I love this. They have to learn the note name and location without always associating certain notes always being played with a certain finger. (Ex.: no more is "E" always played by finger 3). I will not go back to the basic course. Absolutely love premier and highly reccomend to any teacher or student of any age.

    Difficulty Level:
  • April 21, 2008 Isn't slow and boring!

I love how this book progresses. Just a few pages into the book the student is learning note values.I've only used this book for a couple months but I feel like the student is less likely to get bored in these books because it progresses so well. Finally...

I feel like I've found a book that will work for those smart kids in ages 9-12 that can't work in adult books yet but are really above a lot of the beginning books. I also love the emphasis on learning particular rhythms. The student is more likely to grasp a rhythm if it is repeated thus making them more likely to remember note values, rather than learning note values in a more isolated fashion.

  • November 01, 2007 Alfred's Premier, Tread with No Fear

Alfred's beginner piano courses are user friendly as they use a step by step method of deduction that builds on skills and methods gradually introduced to the student allowing much room for accomplishment and self confidence. I especially like the duets which train the student's ear for a...

"future" sound that they will desire to experience. I've used the Alfred series for almost ten years and like the improvements made to the new series. Keep up the good work, Alfred!!

    Difficulty Level:
  • September 10, 2007 Covering the basics!

I have found the Alfred's Level 1A to do a good job covering the basics for the young beginner. The illustrations are interesting and they are helpful to the student especially at the beginning when learning the notes on the keyboard.(page 19) Interested students usually "fly" through the...

book giving a sense of much accomplishment for them.
