The composer wrote string quartet settings of two worksfrom his cycle of piano waltzesOp. 54 (No. 1 in A major and No. 4 in D flat major), and he transposed thesecond waltzinto the key of D major to facilitate performance. The arrangement for thisparticular groupof instruments was published after the composer's death, along with a doublebass partad libitum so that the work could be performed by a string orchestra. Thistitle is part ofthe first Complete Critical Edition of Works by Antonin Dvorak.
