Haiku is a short poetry form consisting of three verses with 5+7+5 syllables. In Japan this form has a long tradition and has become a popular art form. Many famous poets have used it to portray special atmospheres and landscapes full of associations with and consequences for the domain of human activity. The shortness of the texts leads to the composer to give the instruments space to musically describe the mood evoked in the text: an extensive instrumental prelude often introduces a characteristic atmosphere. The composition makes free use of twelve-tone techniques.

CONTENT
Ein haiku ist ein Kurzgedicht, bestehend aus 3 Zeilen mit 5+7+5 Silben. In Japan hat diese Form eine lange Tradition und ist zu einer Volks-kunst geworden. Viele beruhmte Dichter bedienten sich ihrer, um in komprimierter Andeutung Stimmungen, Landschaftsbilder mit Assoziationen und Schlussfolge-rungen fur den menschlichen Bereich zu gestalten. Die Kurze der Texte reizte die Komponistin, den Instrumen-ten Raum zur musikalischen Ausdeutung zu geben, oft fuhrt ein ausfuhrliches Vorspiel schon in eine charakteri-stische Atmosphare. Der Kompositionsstil bedient sich der 12-Ton-Technik in freier Form.
