Composed by Claude Gervaise. Recorder Quartets, String Quartets, Quintets etc. Attaingnant Dance Prints Collection. Score. Published by London Pro Musica (MM.LPMAD06).Contains one of the most attractive versions of the Passamezzo antico, as well as some unusual triple-time branles. Another classic is the Pavane dAngleterre (also arranged by Mr Poulenc). Includes 3 pavanne, 5 galliards and 40 bransle. The pavan is a slow, stately court dance in duple meter, popular throughout Europe; frequently the pavan was used as the first dance in a set of dances. The branle is a lively old dance in 4/4 time. Usually a country dance, popular in the Renaissance. The branle was danced by a group of many couples, some danced in a line and some in a circle.
