The Rusconi Codex (Bologna, Civico Museo Bibiiografico Musicale, MS Q. 19) is a large collection of motets written probably in Bologna or Ferrara around 1515. Jean Moutons ;Ave Maria;, presented here, contains a canon by inversion between the tenor and bassus, though both parts are written out in full in the source. Jean Mouton (c. 1459 - 1522) was a French composer of the Renaissance. He was famous both for his motets, which are among the most refined of the time, and for being the teacher of Adrian Willaert, one of the founders of the Venetian School. Canons were also one of Moutons strong points. The other piece included here is O rex Gentium (Anonymous).
