Composed by Padovano. Miscellaneous Music. Italian Instrumental Music of the Renaissance. Score and Parts. Published by Magnamusic Distributors Inc (MM.LPMIM10).

These two ricercars are taken from Padovanos Il primo libra de ricercari a 4 (Venice, 1556). Annibale Fadovano was, not surprisingly born in Padova (Padua) in 1527. He was well-known as an organist, and held the prized job of organist at the Basilica San Marco in Venice from 1552 to 1565. The next year he moved to the court of Archduke Karl II of Austria at Graz, where he became director of music a few years later. Padovanos ricercars are mostly rather substantial pieces, that develop their motives at length. They are quite close stylistically to those by Giulio Segni. - BT.
