Legato Sempre and the sustain pedal give the smooth feel of flowing water to this soothing song which rarely rises above "piano" dynamics. There is variety throughout, though, in the melodic figures, played in different keyboard registers. ! time and a D minor modal tonality add a feel of mystery to the sound of swirling river currents.
