On themes by Jacques Offenbach. Composed by Johann Strauss Jr. Arranged by Jos van de Braak. Baton Music orchestral series. On themes by Jacques Offenbach. Full score. Duration 6:00. Baton Music #BM755-SCORE. Published by Baton Music (BF.BM755-SCORE).

In 1860, the curtain of the Carl-Theater in Vienna rose on the first German-language production of Offenbach's parody of Greek mythology, "Orphee aux enfers" ("Orpheus in the Underworld"). Sitting among the audience in the stalls was Johann Strauss. Enraptured by Offenbach's tuneful score he quickly fashioned a quadrille from some of the stage works most attractive themes. The first performance of Strauss's Orpheus-Quadrille took place on 18 April 1860, when Johann himself conducted the new work at a concert in the tavern "Zum grossen Zeisig" in the Viennese suburb of Neubau. This arrangement of the Quadrille follows the version which was played at the 2008 Vienna New Years Concerto under the baton of with Georges Pretre. In this version the Quadrille ends with the sparkling Cancan as the finale.
