This song begins with a music box type of quality with a simple, high melody line. The second verse is written an octave lower and has more movement, then transitions to a full and rich third verse. The piece begins in the key of F with one key change into the key of G.
This familiar tune is sung to a variety of texts. It is known in my church as "In Humility, Our Savior" but it is also known to have the following titles: Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus, Love Divine, All Loves Excelling, Jesus! What a Friend for Sinners, Alleluia! Sing to Jesus, Hearts to Heaven and Voices Raise, Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken, Blest the Man That Fears Jehovah, Call Jehovah Thy Salvation, In Thy Heritage the Heathen, Lord, Thy Glory Fills the Heaven, and others.
