Potts (A0.499759).These piano excerpts, (which include: Introduction, and variations 2, 3, and 4) from the Set of nine Raymond Variations written in 2015 by S. G. Potts, are all based on the main Andantino theme, which forms a central part of the ‘Raymond Overture’ written in 1851 by French composer Ambroise Thomas: 1811-1896.
The variations have been written in an easily accessible tonal style and strongly exploit the passionate elements of Thomas' theme. The music is suitable for most occasions, including: Concert Piano solo, end of concert encore, and any other musical occasion; but the piece would also (paradoxically) be suitable for funeral (at a slightly slower tempo than the sample mp3) or a wedding service, due to the achingly rhapsodic and passionate melodic themes it contains.
The piece lasts around 3 minutes in duration, and is packed with energy and passion; it could rightly be considered a shake of the fist in defiance of fate. It is a truly passionate and romantic piece of music.
