It goes through several moods beginning with an energetic rhythmic beginning that eases into long sustained note passages and culminates with a virtuoso final section in which the single pitch motif expands to full fledged rhythmic melodic lines. The clarinets used are the Eb, 2 Bb, alto and bass clarinets. The work was commissioned by the Bourse de la Creation 1996 du Conseil General des Vosges for the Ensemble Variance.. The duration is approximately 10 minutes.
