Ravel's early masterwork is presented here with a LOT of advantages over the original. Ravel's music came into the public domain decades ago. An urtext edition helped clarify many details from the original Durand. Our version builds on that urtext, and uses several common pianistic devices to make this very-difficult-to-play-and-read piece a lot less of both. Ranges have been reduced, rhythms have been halved, spans and stretches have been ameliorated. No clef changes in the middle of a measure. Chords have been respelled and sometimes labeled for ease of visual and pianistic recognition. Yet, the melody, the harmonic colours, the movements, all the sweep and scope remain.
