Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Austin Boothroyd. 21st Century. Score. 9 pages. Published by Martello Music (S0.41555).

The Banks of Green Willow, noted in Somerset in 1904 by Cecil Sharp, tells how the superstition of seafarers can lead to tragic loss. Possibly based on the story of Jonah, the presence on board ship of the young woman, an evil-doer who has stolen from her parents, is perceived to imperil the safety of all.The Lincolnshire Poacher interprets the evil of stealing in a very different way. In this case, getting the better of those who have more than others is portrayed as the principal joy of poaching. This setting for SATB choir and piano explores the tragic and joyous symbolism of these classic English folk songs. The piano part provides strong support for all singers. Two English Folk Songs is ideal for youth choirs and small adult choirs.
