A lighthearted work broadly invoking the composer's vision of life in the upper plains states, it is good, solid music well-scored for band. In one continuous movement, its moods include fanfarish, open-country, ensemble, subdued relaxation after a long day of work, and, finally, a rousing hoedown, complete with brass family punctuations. Fun-loving and uninhibited in spirit, with just a few solo passages, this is a great addition to any concert.
