Christ has long been associated with the concept of light. Besides, such biblical references to him as "the Lord is my light," "thy light is come,ö and "the light of the world," John refers specifically to Christ as "the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.ö This cantata seeks to explore that facet of the Christmas story, bringing into focus the events as they occurred in reference to the many instances of light surrounding the miracle of the holy birth. Niel Lorenz's unique concept and narration (not to mention two well-wrought lyrics!) is supported by Lani Smith's sensitive settings and arrangements.
