It does not form part of the narrative of the opera but is sung by the character, Hanna, who dressed in traditional Pontevedrin clothes, sings this Pontevedrin song about a "Vilia", a beautiful supernatural character who seduces a hapless hunter. It has subsequently become standard concert repertoire for both male and female singers (this English version is in F major, suitable for mezzos and baritones).
