Composed by Tim Attride. Christmas. Octavo. 2 pages. Tim Attride #3589141. Published by Tim Attride (A0.851304).

Starting with bars of 11 beats might raise a few eyebrows. However, this short setting of anonymous C15th words (as with many of my pieces) is intended to support the text, rather than be a "nice tune" with words shoehorned in.
What turns out to be a flowing opening line for the Sopranos (/ solo) leads into a simple refrain. Altos join for the second verse, still in unison, with a slightly elaborated 2-part refrain including duplets against 3/4. So on with the Tenors added in verse three and the Basses in verse four.
By verse five, some harmony is forthcoming, as is a brief division for the Sops. Although the nominal key rests in C minor and the refrains so far have resolved on a G major chord, the final chorus ends on a triumphant 8-part C major chord.
A definite showpiece for an (at least) reasonably competent choir.
